seek: seek: [OE] Seek has several Germanic relatives – German suchen, Swedish söka, Danish søge, etc – which point back to a prehistoric Germanic ancestor *sōkjan. If Old English sēcan had developed in the ordinary way, it would have become modern English seech, not seek.
